A practical dog-waste cleanup guide for Northeast Houston yards
A useful cleanup routine fits your dogs, the part of the yard you use, and the time you can reliably give it. This guide explains what to do yourself, what recurring pickup includes, and what to confirm before choosing a service.
Start with pickup, not a spray
Remove dog waste promptly and dispose of it properly. Wash your hands after handling waste, bags or cleanup tools. The CDC’s guidance for dog owners explains these basic habits. Keep children away from waste and supervise outdoor play; a recently scooped yard is not a sterile environment.
Rain is not a disposal method. Stormwater can move pet waste into drains and nearby waterways, according to the EPA’s pet-waste management guidance. Pick up what you can safely access instead of hosing it toward a street or drain. After rain, look again in your dogs’ usual areas once access is safe.
Build a routine around the yard you actually use
Check dog runs, fence lines and favorite spots regularly. A quick daily check is a practical way to catch fresh deposits between professional visits. More dogs or a smaller heavily used area can mean more accumulation between pickups. Choose frequency by the buildup you observe, not by total lot size alone.
Before children play or guests arrive, inspect the play area for new waste. A weekly or twice-weekly service cannot prevent a dog from depositing more waste after the visit. Cleanup also does not replace veterinary care, pest control, lawn care or handwashing.
Heat, odor and lawn concerns
If odor is what makes your yard unpleasant, start by removing solid waste and discussing where the odor occurs. Deodorizing and waste pickup are different services. A treatment intended to help control odors is not proof that a lawn is free of bacteria or parasites, and it cannot repair every cause of grass damage.
Do not improvise chemical mixtures or apply a disinfectant to grass based only on an online tip. Suitability depends on the product, surface, application and reentry instructions. DWM treatment requests remain inquiries until those details are confirmed; we do not promise sterilization or prevention of illness.
DIY pickup or a recurring service?
DIY can work when you have appropriate supplies and can keep up consistently. Use a dedicated scoop or bag, place waste in an appropriate trash container, and wash your hands afterward. Keep cleanup tools separate from food and children’s toys.
A recurring service can take that routine task off your schedule. Compare the actual pickup frequency, serviced area, extra-dog charges, disposal method, gate handling and missed-waste policy. The useful question is whether the time saved and a more usable yard are worth the quoted cost for your household.
What DWM’s current plans include
- Clean Yard — from $27/week: one pickup each week; no deodorizing included.
- Clean Yard Plus — from $40/week: one pickup and one deodorizing treatment each week.
- Family Ready — from $55/week: two pickups and one deodorizing treatment each week.
Memberships are billed weekly, plus applicable tax. Base pricing covers up to two dogs and 2,500 square feet of accessible serviced yard. Third and fourth dogs each add $20 per calendar month on Clean Yard or Clean Yard Plus, or $25 per calendar month on Family Ready. These additional-dog charges are billed separately from the weekly membership.
Five or more dogs, larger serviced areas or unusually difficult conditions need a custom quote. Initial accumulated-waste cleanup is quoted separately and approved before work begins. Optional deodorizing is $25 for one treatment during an already scheduled pickup, plus applicable tax, only when individually requested and approved. It does not repeat, and plans with an included weekly treatment do not add that $25 charge for the included treatment. Separate trips require a custom quote.
What to expect and confirm before a visit
DWM’s Every-Visit Standard includes fresh shoe covers for each yard, equipment cleaned and sanitized between properties, secured-gate photo confirmation and service-completion communication. Bagged waste goes in your designated outdoor trash bin; off-site hauling is not included.
You do not need to be home when safe access is available and dogs are secured. Confirm gate arrangements, the agreed cleanup area, your outdoor bin and the available route day before service. Discuss weather delays or access problems directly with DWM; do not assume an unrestricted appointment time.
The Missed-Waste Guarantee covers visible waste present during the visit when reported within 24 hours. We return within two business days when weather and access allow; if we cannot correct it in that window, we refund the affected visit’s service value. Newly deposited waste is excluded. If DWM cannot complete or make up a scheduled visit within the service week, we credit the undelivered visit without requiring you to ask. The weekly service fee is divided by that week’s scheduled pickups; monthly additional-dog charges are divided by that month’s scheduled pickups.
